Justus Humphrey has been a lifelong reader of comics and graphic novels and has begun making his own comics in more recent years. In 2023, he completed a certificate in comics from the Sequential Artists Workshop.

For fun and practice, he sometimes makes lighthearted comics based on moments in his life with his wife and posts them as Ginger and Patches (previously State of the Union Comics). These were posted weekly for a time, but now are more sporadic.

Recently, he has been working on minicomics and short pieces for publication in other venues.

He has published short comics in the anthologies Stationary Objects and Push Pull.
